It’s been a tough month of October under the red zone lockdown, and certainly without our weekly FPF battles, high-fives and mutual respect for opponents on the gridiron, it only makes it tougher. It is, however, articles like these that give us a chance to reconnect and remember the good times FPF has blessed us with. This time around, we’ll go back to a not-so, yet seemingly so-far away, memory of Winter 2020.
As President Rob Campana has mentioned in some FPF Facebook group comments, buried under hundreds of other comments, the FPF media team has opened up the archives and gone back to look at the Winter 2020 stats to announce two things: All-Star nominations and Award Winners. As it was for the Fall Cup Award Winners, the Winter 2020 All-Stars and Award Winners were selected by Iggy Magnets and myself.
For All-Star selections:
Alexi chose All-Stars for the following divisions: Div 2, 5B, 6, 6D, 35+, Women’s and Co-Ed 1.
I selected All-Star players for Divisions 1, 3, 4A, 4B, 5A, and Co-Ed 2.
For Award Winners:
Both Alexi and I selected a player for every award, in every division, and did so blindly (i.e. our picks were hidden to each other). If it was found that we voted for the same player, the award simply went to them. If we differed in our picks, we provided the legendary Simon Dagenais with the stats for both players (without the player’s name) and it was his chance to play his version of Simon Says, and chose, purely based on stats, the individual who he believed had the better stats. That player, obviously, was championed as the Award Winner.
We also had a soft guideline to select All-Stars based on positions. Where we could, we filled out the All-Star roster, per division, with the following positions in mind: 2 QBs, 2 WRs, 2 DBs, 2 Two-Way Players, 1 Rusher, 1 Snapper/Standout1 (Since we do not have a dedicated “Snapper” position for players, it was not always possible to target the best snapper in each Division), Standout2 and Standout3, where the Standouts could be a 3rd or 4th QB, WR, DB, or Two-Way player that stood above their peers in their respective category/position.
We felt as though you would enjoy your October redzone weekend with more than just Sunday’s NFL Redzone, but a little bit of FPF as well, starting tonight, Friday October 30th. We will be revealing the All-Stars and Award Winners as such: All-Stars will be revealed and spread out by Division over the next 3 days of the weekend (Friday/Saturday/Sunday). On Monday, we will finish off by revealing the Award Winners for All Divisions.
There is one more thing to say before announcing tonight’s All-Stars. If you were an FPF beast, and COULD have been voted into the FPF All-Star Team based off your performance in 2 divisions, you did of course, make the All-Star team, but were voted in from the better of the 2 divisions you played in. For example, if you played in Div 1 and 2, and had the stats to back up an All-Star nomination for both Divisions, you were selected as part of the FPF All-Star team based on your Div 1 stats. We see it as “making the FPF All-Star team” and not the “Div 1 All-Star Team”. This way, it includes more players that would usually take part in the annual All-Star Game, which of course, won’t be happening this year (thanks yet again, COVID).
